What does an advisor do?
The PHS advising team offers a variety of services for all students in the academic, personal-social, and career areas.

  • Scheduling/Registration: The advisors work with incoming students to register for the appropriate classes, and work with current students in selecting classes.
  • Testing: Advisors organize and implement the PSAT, ACT, SAT, ASVAB, and AP Testing.
  • Post Secondary Educational Planning: Advisors provide information on college applications, scholarships, and financial aid.
  • Classroom guidance: Advisors will visit classrooms throughout the year to provide and distribute important information in how to be successful throughout high school and into the future.
  • Referrals to Outside Agencies: Advisors have a list of outside resources for needs that are outside of the school realm.
  • Personal Advising: Advisors are always willing to meet with students about personal concerns. Confidentitality is always maintained.

How do I see my advisor?

At PHS, students are assigned to their advisor according to last name or specialty. Advisors are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Early dismissal, holidays, and summer are excluded.

  • Stop by before school, during lunch, or after school to make an appointment. You will fill out your own pass to have your teacher sign when it is the appropriate time to leave class. Directions are below.
  • If you have a simple question, please consider emailing or calling your advisor.
  • If there is an emergency, please ask an administrator, or another secretary to see an advisor. Please do not leave until you are able to speak with an advisor.

During the first two weeks of the semester, the advisors are very busy scheduling new students, verifying classes, and checking graduation requirements. Advisors make every effort to return phone calls and emails within 24 hours.

Parents:
We request that you make an appointment to visit with an advisor. To schedule an appointment, please call the front office to be connected to the appropriate advisor.
